Look Good Feel Better named beneficiary of the 2012 Grocery Charity Ball

From an impressive line-up of 85 applicants, Look Good Feel Better has won the bid to become the beneficiary of the 2012 Grocery Charity Ball.

The Grocery Charity Ball Trust (formed in 2004) was established to run this premier event on the grocery industry social calendar, and direct the profits to charitable trusts in New Zealand. The annual event is held with the support of Foodstuffs and Progressive, as well as the New Zealand Food & Grocery Council.

This is a huge coup for the charity as this is our first year presenting for this incredible opportunity. Past recipients have benefited hugely from this event, to the tune of more than quarter of a million dollars, and with the tremendous support of the grocery industry it’s hoped LGFB will walk away with at least that amount of funding!

Hilton Lake Taupo provides support for LGFB workshops

Hilton Lake Taupo is thrilled to support Look Good Feel Better by providing one of its beautiful function spaces for their local workshops. Its iconic property combines magnificent views with luxuriously appointed rooms to create an atmosphere of intimate ambiance for groups to enjoy.

At a recent Workshop, held in the Presidential Suite and catered for by the Hilton team and Bistro Lago Restaurant, the attendees were able to relax and interact, enjoying their time together. At Hilton Lake Taupo we believe the Tutors and volunteers involved in Look Good Feel Better do a fantastic job and we are delighted to be able to assist by adding another dimension to the luxury of the workshops.

School kids give LGFB a special early Xmas present

Look Good Feel Better wants to say a huge thank you to the wonderful class of talented young ladies at Carmel College, Auckland for donating over 70 hand-designed headscarves for our workshops.

Led by Tutor Annaliese Seedall, the students from Carmel College designed their own headscarves with a personalised, inspirational message for those who will receive them. Messages include: “Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow,” “Be-YOU-tiful” and “Smile, happy looks good on you!” The girls also signed their headscarf to add a very special, personal touch.

Last week General Manager Yvonne Brownlie was presented with the beautiful headscarves at the school, and was overjoyed by the entire class’s passion, generosity and design talents!

The headscarves will be given to lucky Look Good Feel Better attendees at upcoming workshops.

We spoke to Carmel College student Jessica Hodson about her involvement in making the headscarves for Look Good Feel Better…

Why was this a special project for you and your class?

This project was special because it was real and different to other projects we’d done in the past. I hadn’t heard of Look Good Feel Better before, and when Yvonne came to talk to our school about the charity at the start of the year we all wanted to help. This was something nice we could do for a special cause, and even though this was a small thing it was really effective.

How long did it take your class to make all the headscarves?

We worked on them for the whole term, so seven weeks in total. There were lots of steps involved including finding the perfect quote.

What quote did your headscarf include?

“All our dreams can come true if you have the courage to pursue it.”

What were some of your other favourite messages on the headscarves from other students?

I loved the one that said, “Be-YOU-tiful.”

How did you feel when you handed all the headscarves over to Yvonne from Look Good Feel Better?

It felt really good as we had put a lot of work into them, and we really wanted to do this for Look Good Feel Better – it’s such a great cause.

Teeing off for a fantastic cause

Auckland put on a beautiful day for this year’s Look Good Feel Better Golf Day at the stunning Akarana Golf Club in Mt Roskill.

We wish to thank everyone involved for making this day so enjoyable and successful. We trust all of those on the course took home many great memories and stories (and perhaps a few blisters!).

The Look Good Feel Better Golf Day is an annual event, so if you missed joining us this year make sure you come along in 2012 to enjoy a relaxing day on the green, whilst also contributing to a very worthwhile cause.
