“It's just wonderful to feel good about myself again.”
“The transformations that took place in those short hours sent us back into the world enlivened and feeling cared for.”
What We Do and How We Make a Difference
Looking good, even when cancer is diagnosed, can give patients control at a time in their lives when they need it most.
During a two and a half hour workshop, attendees are shown by trained cosmetic volunteers how to cope with the physical side effects of their treatment, such as dry flaking skin and pigmentation changes.
They are taken through a step by step skincare and make-up regime, and given guidance on how to apply cosmetics to help camouflage loss of eyebrows, eyelashes and skin colour fluctuations.
Over 460 volunteers, some from the cosmetic industry, assist at these workshops throughout New Zealand because the work is so rewarding and results are so evident.
A professional demonstration of wigs and turbans from Hair Creations is included at the end of every workshop. All workshop attendees take home a gift bag of skincare and cosmetic products, donated by the Cosmetic Toiletry and Fragrance Association of New Zealand (CTFA).
Look Good Feel Better is a registered charity, and relies on self funding and community donations to help keep the programme operational in New Zealand. The workshop programme is available in all main oncology centres throughout New Zealand.
